AI 筆記 NVDIA AMD 以及 ? Intel ?

AI 筆記 NVDIA AMD 以及 ? Intel ?
整理一些收集來的筆記:

CUDA and OpenCL are the two main ways for programming GPUs. CUDA is by far the most developed, has the most extensive ecosystem, and is the most robustly supported by deep learning libraries. CUDA is a proprietary language created by Nvidia, so it can’t be used by GPUs from other companies. When fast.ai recommends Nvidia GPUs, it is not out of any special affinity or loyalty to Nvidia on our part, but that this is by far the best option for deep learning.

Nvidia dominates the market for GPUs, with the next closest competitor being the company AMD. This summer, AMD announced the release of a platform called ROCm to provide more support for deep learning. The status of ROCm for major deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MxNet, and CNTK is still under development.

ROCm, the first open-source HPC/Hyperscale-class platform for GPU computing that’s also programming-language independent.

The ROCr System Runtime is language independent and makes heavy use of the Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) Runtime API. This approach provides a rich foundation to exectute programming languages such as HCC C++ and HIP, the Khronos Group’s OpenCL, and Continum’s Anaconda Python.

PLC技術和PC-based技術

在自動控制領域,
PLC技術和PC-based技術是當前比較具有代表性的控制技術,
兩者的技術起源和發展有較大的差異。

PLC(Programmable Logic Controller)

SiS Distribution Continues to Deploy Scalable QNAP Security Surveillance Solution for its Enlarged Warehouse
Background
SiS Distribution is a wholesaler for IT business, specializing in distributing IT products in Thailand. It sells many renowned brands worldwide, and is a leading distributor for IT products in Thailand.

Challenges
SiS Distribution owns a large warehouse for storing technology and electronics goods. It is needed to keep watching over its warehoused goods 24/7, and the all-IP surveillance solution from QNAP® was adopted to fulfill this task. Management level can monitor the warehouse from the head office and branches remotely, paying close attention to any event regarding people safety, warehouse capacity and inventory security.
However, a recent expansion left the warehouse with monitoring gaps. While the goods stored increased and the operation in the warehouse became heavier, SiS Distribution's management team required a surveillance solution that could grow with its needs simultaneously without sacrificing the existing video surveillance investment. Downtime was also unacceptable because the warehouse stocked valuable electronics and high-end IT equipments.

Solution
In the initial phase, SiS Distribution chose QNAP NVRs for its surveillance solution, deploying 10 units of QNAP® VioStor VS-8024U-RP NVR to get connected with more than 60 IP cameras from Axis® Communications. Based on the good experiences over the years, such as ease for use and deployment, integration with a wide range of the network cameras, web-based GUI monitoring enabling remote management, and supportive data backup in local drives or remote storages, SiS Distribution decided to go on implementing QNAP NVRs with the familiar management interface and numerous useful functions. "QNAP NVR surveillance solution has gained our confidence and trust. We need to count on its reliability and stability to fulfill the security of the enlarged warehouse," said a representative from SiS Distribution.
In the second phase for expansion, 12 units of QNAP® VioStor VS-8024U-RP NVR were deployed, along with 138 Axis® network cameras. This comprehensive deployment enhanced the security around the warehouse and prevented the blind spots for people and goods protection. Besides, the setup for motion-detected recording helped keep storage low costs due to the NVRs only recorded valid events. Now, security administrators can easily monitor activities on the warehouse floor or in the office, anytime and anywhere.

Result
QNAP's networked surveillance solution significantly benefited security administrators and operations of SiS Distribution warehouse. The management acknowledged that the implementation of QNAP NVRs was rewarding, especially the scalability could fully support the expansion of surveillance deployment. Furthermore, the user-friendly interface effectively made 40 percent reduction on cost of administration and maintenance.
Now, the warehouse of SiS Distribution operates with larger amount of goods moved in and out and people busy walking around. All the activities are well taken care of by QNAP NVR surveillance system in a more secure environment.

QNAP Security Solves a French Sawmill’s Security Concern with its Linux-Based NVR Solution

QNAP Security Solves a French Sawmill’s Security Concern with its Linux-Based NVR Solution
Application: Large office

Introduction
Bois du Dauphiné is a famous French sawmill company located in well-known Alpine industrial city, Cheylas. Covering more than 50,000 square meters, Bois du Dauphiné has averaged an annual output of more than 150,000 square meters of softwood logs to France and neighboring European countries since 1983.

MissionsDue to the flammable nature of wood, Bois du Dauphiné fell victim to numerous fire incidents in October 2009. The sheer magnitude of the losses they suffered led them to think the importance of emergency management. At the end of 2010, Bois du Dauphiné set out to increase security measures and raise the quality of their surveillance equipments such as network cameras and video recorders. After careful research, they chose QNAP’s Linux-based NVR products because of their ability of supporting high video resolution and remote monitoring. They expected to leverage the new system’s advantages to increase the security of their logging logistics from sawing, production, to delivery. Because the end users are non-technical personnel, Bois du Dauphiné emphasized the need for a surveillance solution that is easy to install, use, and maintain.

Solution
“After analyzing our client’s needs and comparing different solutions among CCTV, PC- based NVR, and standalone NVR, we recommended QNAP’s standalone 5-drive VS-5020 VioStor NVR to Bois du Dauphiné,” said Jeremy IEZZI, Project Manager at CONECTIS, an IP and security distributor. “The VioStor NVR is extremely user-friendly in both installation and operations. Furthermore, only with a single machine, the users can monitor and record up to 20 channels.”

Bois du Dauphine put in place 20 VIVOTEK IP cameras to cover the sawmill. Coupled with QNAP VS-5020's support for megapixel resolution, these cameras clearly display their respective views in great detail. More impressively, the users can remotely view, record, and playback the videos from 6 different sites. Moreover, Bois du Dauphine can set up control centers in different worksites and monitor and playback the videos of the IP cameras in the mill remotely. The VS-5020 also allows remote monitoring and video playback of the IP cameras via QNAP's VMobile network surveillance application. By simply installing the app on any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android phones, or Windows PDA, they can view the live video of the production line anytime, anywhere.

Future Plan
In the first stage of the project Bois du Dauphine installed 20 IP cameras. They planned to increase the number of IP cameras in the mill in the next 1 to 2 quarters. QNAP's remote-end software feature "Multi-server monitoring" can manage multiple NVR servers with just one software interface, which means that users can flexibly monitor various QNAP NVR models as well as different brands of network cameras without installing extra software at no additional cost. This feature provides excellent scalability. The possibility of implementing new NVRs within the same management interface gives clients more confidence in staying with QNAP in the future.

QNAP Security provides Linux-based NVR solution to the Japanese Communication International School

QNAP Security provides Linux-based NVR solution to the Japanese Communication International School
Application: Large office

Introduction
Every year approximately 800 students from around the world travel to study at Japanese Communication International School (JCIS) in Osaka. The security of these international elites and the campus staff is the top priority of JCIS’s IT Department; however, this is not an easy task. With an increasing number of buildings constructed and separated by functions, the most basic surveillance provision came to require the integration of a new security system with the existing network structure. The goal of this hybrid is to enhance remote access capabilities to the system’s database and to increase overall data protection.

Missions
"Initially we ran a PC-based NVR system on Panasonic surveillance cameras; however, this meant that we were subject to certain risks since PC systems cannot automatically restart after a power outage. On multiple occasions, the video recording was interrupted and we lost important data due to hard drive failure," said Yasushi Nakaguro, Project Manager at R.O.D. "In 2009, after four years of employing this imperfect system, we decided to look for an alternative security solution. We sought out QNAP Security, a standalone NVR manufacturer known for the stability of their products and excellent post-sales support. QNAP utilized their VioStor-8024 surveillance system at 300 Mbps to simultaneously record and provide live view of up to 24 IP cameras. On top of that, the VioStor-8024 NVR offered huge storage capacity through 8 hard drives with RAID 1, 5, 5+hot spare, 6, and 6+ hot spare supports. We created RAID 1 disk volumes on the NVR, which protected the video data against one hard drive failure in each pair of hard drives. They effectively solved all the data storage instability issues we faced with the original security system."

System Overview
Back in 2004 when their first building was constructed, JCIS had worked with a security consultancy to install 6 Panasonic HCM-527s. These cameras possessed wide angle lenses that allowed them to cover the three major entrances of the building. In addition, 24 HCM-715s were installed in the classrooms. In 2009, JCIS also added Sony RZ50N, cameras capable of high speed 340-degree panning and 90-degree tilting. With the support for these unique PTZ features by the QNAP NVR, these IP cameras can now be fully utilized. Now, coupled with QNAP's VioStor NVR, the megapixel recordings of these cameras can be steadily transmitted and stored to the NVR at the same time.

"For this particular project, it was important to stabilize all aspects of security from compression rate, transmission, to hardware throughput due to the fact that the central control room is located in a separate building. VioStor’s CPU and hard drive capabilities solved this problem,” added Yasushi. "The previous incidents of video data loss also prompted us to look into the Linux-based NVR solution supporting RAID from QNAP, which provided reliable data storage with all data simultaneously written to both hard drives in each pair in a duplicative way.

Future Plan
Andrew Yu, Product Manager at QNAP, stated that "Kokisai Tsushin Co., Ltd., the parent corporation of JCIS, now plans to install QNAP NVR servers in multiple subsidiaries by 2012. Coupled with the Linux-based network security system, the central control room in the headquarters will ultimately be able to monitor all video, audio, events, and alarms from different locations. This is achieved by VioStor NVR’s multi-server monitoring feature, which allows simultaneous 128-channel monitoring from multiple VioStor NVR servers."

QNAP Surveillance System Successfully Launched in Telekom Malaysia Berhad

QNAP Surveillance System Successfully Launched in Telekom Malaysia Berhad
Application: Large office

Introduction
Telekom Malaysia is the No. 1 provider of information communication technologies in Malaysia. Their strength not only lies in their products and services, but also in various aspects of the industry including research and development as well as value added innovations.

With its business continually expanding, Telekom Malaysia has invested in a few subsidiary companies like VADS Berhad (VADS), which is one of Malaysia's leading Managed ICT service providers; Multimedia University (MMU), a tertiary education institution, The Yellow Pages group business directory company, and others.

ChallengesTelekom Malaysia's business and personnel has mushroomed in recent years to about 30,000 employees located in several office buildings, and TM continues to expand its office facilities in downtown Kuala Lumpur. In 2010, Malaysia Telekom decided to upgrade facility security and deploy a new video surveillance system that would bring high scalability and integrated monitoring features to on-site security personnel. Based on the thousands of employees located throughout the offices in Kuala Lumpur and taking into consideration its already existing network structure, Malaysia Telekom's IT Manager decided a network-based surveillance solution with high integration flexibility and centralized management would best suit the company's needs. Implementation of this type of solution would simplify cable runs and eliminate reliance on CCTV type cameras, which usually have lower resolution and are more costly than modern IP cameras – and ultimately reduce costs while delivering superior video surveillance.

Solution
After consideration from various brands, the environmental conditions and specifications of this project, Telekom Malaysia narrowed its selection of 322 IP camera models from 3 reliable brands, including ACTi, Sony, MOBOTIX and a few existing analog cameras. To record the video surveillance, TM selected the standalone QNAP VioStor VS-8040U-RP NVR for its compatibility with cameras, six easy steps to set up and connect, along with the configuration that allows each camera to be supported by the VioStor's eight 2TB hard drives with RAID 5 redundancy, guaranteeing reliable video surveillance to protect TM's staff and facilities.

The Sony SNC-RS86 outdoor speed domes supported by QNAP VioStor NVR are mainly used to monitor the building's exterior surroundings, such the parking lot, opposite street and courtyard. The SNC-RS46 indoor speed dome is primarily used for the main lobby entrance and emergency exits as it supports a number of PTZ and audio features that allow real-time warning and help calls from some of the building corners. The MOBOTIX Q24-SEC-D11 has a unique 360-degree Panorama, suitable for the filing rooms, indoor parking garages, and general office areas. It covers a wide range of surveillance, eliminating the need for any additional IP cameras, saving additional cost.
Another noteworthy feature is the advanced event management features built into the VioStor NVR. The initial configuration of motion detection, alarm input, connection failure, and recording failure can all be set for after-work hours. If any irregularity is detected, an alarm notification can be sent to Telekom Tower's security office. The guarding staff can then make the necessary protective measures accordingly. In terms of storage, each VS-8040U-RP can be linked with up to 40 IP cameras. With up to 16GB of highly reliable storage mated with H.264 video compression to save hard drive space, TM security personnel can reliably record and monitor all IP cameras installed around the facilities with ease.

Customer Feedback"This type of Cross-Building Surveillance Solution requires QNAP NVR's decentralized data saving, remote access and centralized management ability. The QNAP NVR has decreased bandwidth resources and has successfully adapted to the local network infrastructure anywhere inside the building," said Syahrul, the technical assistant personal at VADS. He later adds " To manage over 250 cameras from different brands and original DVRs in the building of Telecom Malaysia is a stress out and tough work, we have been running up and down everyday just to make sure all the system are functioning well. To solve this problem, we have found James Booi, the general manager from SEMBOYAN TELITI Sdn Bhd that introduced us the QNAP NVR solution. This solution put all the different brands of cameras on a single platform and provided powerful back-end managing ability, now the impossible have become possible."

QNAP's VioGate NDVR and VioStor NVR solutions were introduced in two phases for merging the analog-based monitoring system with the new IP-based surveillance. 200 new cameras were installed with the use of the VioStor series which increased the total number of analog and network cameras to 600 in the hospital.
